CHARP Partners with WTVI, Chipotle and Urban Educators for Change to Host Cultivate Food Forum

Last Thursday, CHARP hosted the Cultivate Food Forum, an event focused on sustainable and healthy eating practices for residents of “food deserts.” All of the CHARP neighborhoods are located in food deserts–areas of our city that lack access to fresh, healthy, and affordable food. The purpose of our event was to raise awareness about this problem and to devise strategies for overcoming it.

The event was a great success, with a turnout of more than 50 community stakeholders. Among the evening’s highlights: childcare by the UNC Charlotte chapter of Urban Educators for Change, dinner catered by Chipotle, and a presentation by UNC Charlotte’s Dr. Elizabeth Racine, who has worked extensively on the issue of hampered access to healthy food for vulnerable populations.

The Cultivate Food Forum will air on WTVI shortly, and we’ll be sure to let you know when we learn the date and time. Here are some pictures from the event.
